When flying round in SL/Opensim it is very hard to get a sense of direction.

Of course you can open the map to see which way you are facing but this blocks
out a large area of the screen.

What I would like to sse is some sort of compass function built into the viewer.


I have few alternative ideas for how this may look. Maybe an option in
preferences could be provided to select if compass is shown and how it is shown
could be provided. That way new better ways could be added as they are
invented.

1) A simple addition of a character into the title bar in the viewer window that
shows Direction faced aproximately(i.e. N= North S=South NNE= North North East)

2) A compass logo in the title bar that revolves as the direction faced cahnges.
Much the same as above just graphical.

3) A detailed graphical image of a compass in a pop up widow that can be resized
and repostioned in the main view part of the window. The needle would always
point up but the dial would rotate to show direction faced. This compass window
would need to be very transparent or maybe the degree of transaprency could also
be a preferneces option.

I am sure others can add to this list of options too.

Ambitious idea I know but so useful for exploring. Maybe start with the simplest
and work up? What do you think Manus?

BTW: cant wait for you to release the next version of the viewer with the
Teleport from IM feature in. Any idea of when that might be?
