I have just installed Hippo (download the ZIP install) on my Ubuntu 8.04 and when I start the launcher with any URL it just opens up Firefox 3 with the default Home page. I had started my OpenSim prior to starting Hippo and am able to connect to it with SL but not with Hippo.

Any suggestions ?

I do not see any log files in the hippo folder.

I have mono 1.91 (compiled version I did following official instructions)

Firefox 3.0.2

Ubuntu 8.04 always updated

2Gb memory

plenty of disk space

Hmm, you mean the Linux .tar.gz?

Can you please give me an example of the command line you are using? Then I can try to reproduce the issue and fix it.

[I received more information via email. Just posting my reply so maybe it can help others.]

To connect your Hippo OpenSim Viewer to your local simulator, first add your local computer to the list of grids:

1. Start the viewer:
   cd <install_directory>/Hippo_OpenSim_Viewer_0.2.1_linux32
   ./hippo_opensim_viewer
2. On the start screen click the "Grids" button between "Connect" and "Quit".
3. At the top of the grids panel click "Add" and fill in:
   • Login URI: http://127.0.0.1:9000/
   • Nick Name: local
   • Grid Name: Local Computer
   Then click "OK."
4. Login.

From then on you can simply do:
cd <install_directory>/Hippo_OpenSim_Viewer_0.2.1_linux32
./hippo_opensim_viewer -grid local

Turned out the problem was because I downloaded the ZIP installation file which is an old version. Therefore, it was lacking a few files.

I downloaded the latest tar one and it worked. I am using it.
